Waste is a major problem facing society today, from energy waste and the effects of climate change, to solid waste disposal and management. Fortunately the issue of waste reduction and disposal is nothing new, and we can look to our tradition for answers regarding the “4 Rs”, reduce, reuse, recycle, plus rethink.

In this lesson students learn about the challenges of waste: Explore the values of reduce, reuse, recycle and rethink from a Jewish perspective with a focus on the Bal Tashkhit, the prohibition against waste; Grapple with dilemmas regarding waste and consumption; Discuss way to eliminate waste in our daily lives.
