Grades: 4-7 The Stories We Live By lessons use Jewish folktales and Rabbinic stories to teach important Jewish values. Each lesson tells a story and offers probing questions and text study for students to consider. Twelve Stories We Live By lessons are available. The teacher's guide is sold separately.
Each of these Stories We Live By lessons allows students develop an appreciation for a single Jewish value through hearing a story and "finding its meaning." A series of short Jewish texts allows students to then explore the nuances of uniquely Jewish insights into its application. Then, these particular values sit in storage, waiting for a class- room fi ght or an incident of bullying, a classroom theft, or many other incidents. This later application of the story and the value to a real life situation will do two things. It will (a) give the teacher a tool for resolving some diffi cult classroom issues, and (b) allow those later incidents to become profound learning opportunities.
